COMMENTS

When the Southern Building Code forced picket spacing on steps to a maximum gap of four inches wood railing systems ugly fast. These iron basket posts leave the space airy and creat a lovely open feeling stairway. The rub is unless you bring in a welder the rail can be a tad rickety. The fix is a bracket to provide lateral support for the hand rail. While a ripe opportunity for lots of decorative ornamentation I thought this simple clean design suited the space. David Logan in Taylorsville took my full size plot and bent up the iron piece perfectly. And finally I let the walnut cap into the hickory floor to add some visual interest overall.
